HONG KONG — The CIC Global AI and Smart Construction Conference and Exhibition (GASCCE) 2026, jointly organized by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Development Bureau (DEVB) of the Hong Kong SAR Government, concluded on a high note after attracting more than 12,000 onsite and online participants during its two-day run at the Hong Kong Science Park from **June 24 to 25, 2026.
Recognized as one of Asia’s leading platforms for construction innovation, the event gathered policymakers, industry leaders, technology companies, researchers, contractors, and construction professionals from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and overseas markets to explore how emerging technologies are transforming the built environment through smarter, safer, and more sustainable construction practices.
This year’s conference centered on three transformative technology pillars—Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, and the Low-altitude Economy (LAE)—highlighting their growing role across every stage of the construction lifecycle. More than 40 internationally renowned speakers shared insights on digital transformation, while over 50 local and international exhibitors demonstrated next-generation solutions for design optimization, construction safety, site monitoring, asset management, operations and maintenance, predictive analytics, and intelligent decision-making, illustrating how AI is rapidly reshaping the global construction industry.
Opening the event, Ms. Bernadette Linn, Secretary for Development of the Development Bureau, emphasized Hong Kong’s continued commitment to innovation and digital transformation.
“The Government’s commitment to innovation and digital transformation has further promoted Hong Kong as an international infrastructure centre, earning us significant global recognition.”
Delivering keynote remarks, Ir Prof. Thomas Ho, Chairman of the Construction Industry Council, highlighted Hong Kong’s strong global competitiveness and the industry’s readiness to embrace emerging technologies.
“According to the latest World Competitiveness Yearbook published in 2026 by the International Institute for Management Development, Hong Kong ranks second overall in the world, reflecting its solid economic performance and resilience.”
He added that initiatives such as the Smart Site Safety System (4S) and the Construction Digitalisation Roadmap for Hong Kong have established a strong digital foundation for the wider deployment of artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart construction technologies throughout the sector.
The second day featured the Conference on Robotics & Low-altitude Economy, which explored the expanding role of robotics, autonomous systems, drones, and aerial technologies in construction. Opening the session, Ir Ricky Lau, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) of the DEVB, underscored the importance of accelerating robotics adoption to improve productivity and safety across infrastructure projects.
The conference also featured perspectives from Legislative Council Members Hon Elizabeth Quat and Hon Duncan Chiu, who discussed Hong Kong’s emerging Low-altitude Economy ecosystem and the increasing adoption of digital tools that are expected to drive smarter infrastructure planning, construction management, and urban development.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Prof. Jack Cheng, Chairperson of the GASCCE Organising Committee, said the conference demonstrated that advanced technologies are no longer experimental concepts but practical solutions being adopted across the industry.
“GASCCE has clearly demonstrated that technologies such as AI, robotics and the LAE are moving from concept into practice, and are gradually being integrated across the entire construction lifecycle.”
Looking ahead, Ir Albert Cheng, Executive Director of the Construction Industry Council, reaffirmed the organization’s long-term commitment to accelerating digital transformation within the construction sector.
“Our role is to turn momentum into capability and adoption. We advance this through three areas: talent development, equipping the workforce with practical digital and AI skills; industry platforms, fostering collaboration and solution exchange; and funding support, providing assistance via the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund, to adopt technologies while strengthening overall industry competitiveness.”
Building on the momentum of GASCCE 2026, the Construction Industry Council said it will continue expanding initiatives that promote the integration of artificial intelligence, robotics, and Low-altitude Economy technologies into construction while strengthening international collaboration, research, workforce development, and technology adoption. Through continued investment in innovation and digital capability, the Council aims to enhance construction safety, improve asset management efficiency, support intelligent decision-making, and accelerate the sustainable transformation of Hong Kong’s construction industry.
With participation from thousands of industry stakeholders and technology innovators worldwide, GASCCE 2026 reinforced Hong Kong’s growing position as a regional hub for smart construction, digital infrastructure, and next-generation engineering technologies, while demonstrating how collaboration between government, industry, and academia can help shape the future of the global built environment.
